HHS Secretary Appoints Jimmy Lynn to NFFSN

Washington – U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell has appointed five members to the congressionally chartered National Foundation on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition (NFFSN) Board of Directors.

The NFFSN was established by Congress in December 2010 to support the mission of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition (PCFSN) to educate, engage, and empower all Americans to adopt a healthy lifestyle that includes regular physical activity and good nutrition. The Foundation and its Board of Directors will work to engage the private sector by encouraging funding and other resource contributions to support the important work of PCFSN. The NFFSN Board of Directors is formed from recommendations made by Congressional leadership and consists of prominent professionals with diverse backgrounds in fitness, sports, nutrition, philanthropy, business, technology, and health.

“The PCFSN has a 60 year legacy as a catalyst for promoting healthy lifestyles for the American people. NFFSN is an important partner in engaging the resources of corporations, foundations, and individuals to help all Americans be physically active, play sports, and eat healthier,” said Secretary Burwell “We welcome these five champions to the Board and look forward to seeing great success as they work to engage the private sector in the important mission of PCFSN.” The new board members include:

  • Jimmy Lynn, Co-Founder and Vice President of Kiswe and Special Advisor/Adjunct Faculty, Georgetown University.
  • Patricia (Patti) S. Rockenwagner, Senior Vice President, Corporate Branding and Communications for Conde Nast. 
  • Henry Lee Rolling, Investment Advisor for Resource Capital Management, LLC.
  • Robin Thurston, President and Co-Founder of MapMyFitness and Senior Vice President of Digital for Under Armour Connected Fitness.
  • Catherine Zinn, Senior National Relationships Executive for DLA Piper.

“Our new board members have the great task of working to advance the initiatives and mission of PCFSN through strategic engagement of the creative genius and financial resources of the private sector. For our country to transform into a healthier nation, it takes leaders and champions from organizations like the Foundation to lead the charge,” said Pat Cunnane, NFFSN Board Chairman.

The current governing members of the Board include:

  • Patrick Cunnane, Chair of NFFSN Board of Directors; President and CEO of Advanced Sports International
  • Tom McMillen, Founding Chair and Current Treasurer of NFFSN Board of Directors; CEO of Washington Capital Advisors

The ex-officio members include:

  • Ursula Bauer, PhD, MPH, Director, National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
  • Thomas Frieden, MD, Director, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
  • Karen DeSalvo, MD, MPH, MSc, Acting Assistant Secretary for Health
  • Shellie Pfohl, MS, Executive Director, President’s Councli on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition
  • Gary H. Gibbons, MD, Director, National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, National Institutes of Health
